a sign of movement tonight in the stalemate over the partial government shutdown. >> aides are calling on democrats to make a counter offer. good evening. i'm dion lim. >> and i'm eric thomas. the shutdown stalemate, president trump's administration is backing away from the term border wall following a meeting with the president, senator lindsey graham said the wall has become a metaphor for border security. >> graham pushed a compromise deal to give democrats new legal status for young immigrants known as dreamers. if lawmakers support wall funding. trump refuses to sign a spending bill that does not include $5 billion for the boarder wall and security measures. kellyanne conway said president trump is ready to negotiate with democrats. >> where are they? nancy pelosi is not here -- >> right now we have a republican house and senate,

they're in control. we need to have discussions. >> that is all changing on january 3rd when the new congress kicks off and democrats take control of the house. >> count em down, it is now day nine of the government shutdown and it is restricting even more access to parks and open spaces that receive federal funding. cornell bernard joins us live in mill valley with more on this story. cornell? >> reporter: we're at the shuttle bus stop from muir woods and alcatraz remain opening thanks to funding by the concession partners but on the coast it is hitting a national treasure pretty hard. >> it is disappointing. >> reporter: this family was ready for a holiday adventure at the point rayes national see shore until they read the posted signs. impacts from the partial government shutdown. >> i liked it. but i am sad that we can't go back. >> reporter: public bathrooms closed and off limits because

frequent the area very often and i often see at least maybe two or three officers in this immediate area and it just -- that day at that moment where were they? i didn't see a single one. >> this is a picture of melton earl kelly, he was arrested this morning. san francisco police believe kelly beat and kicked the victim. new details on a house fire in martinez that forced nine people from their home. firefighters believe hot ashes sparked the looks pretty intense. you could hear the roar of the flames as crews fought the fire at the house on ban bur loop. everyone was able to get out of the home safely. investigators say hot ashes placed in a plastic garbage gas time and fooeding the fire and that is what took us a few minutes to get the gas meter shut off. >> the fire district reminds us

all hot ashes should only be placed in metal containers. a shooting death ever a central valley police corporal, i.c.e. has a detainer on the accused gunman. gustavo perez arriaga was arrested and i.c.e. had no prior encounters on him. he's accused of killing new man police corporal ronil singh. he was in the country illegally and a gang member and had two prior dui charges. the sheriff said the state's immigration policies protected him. i.c.e. providing abc news a statement about the policies saying in part, quote, california sanctuary laws continue to undermine public safety and cause preventible crimes by restricting law enforcement cooperation and allowing public safety threats back into the community to reoffend. governor brown signed the sanctuary state bill last year and titled the california values act. in a signing message the

governor said it prevents local authorities about asking about immigration status during routine interaction and the bill does not prevent or prohibit immigration and customs enforcement ort department of homeland security from doing their work in any way. it also doesn't prevent cooperation and deportation proceed'ings for anyone in state prisons or local jails for serious offenses. the serious offenses do not include misdemeanor dui convictions. meantime, the family of police corporal ronil singh is getting a gift from the foundation supporting first responders. the tunnel of towers will pay off the mortgage of the singh family home in modesto. he leaves behind a wife and 5-month-old son. the foundation pays off the mortgages for fallen first responders. newman's police chief called it a game-changer for the singh family. >> >> the oakland raiders finish the nfl season today and there are reports they could play 2019

home games in england. we were with raiders fans who watched today's game at ricky's in san leandro. now fox sports is reporting that london may serve as home for the raiders next year. they have played home games in london and mexico city for several years. as you know, the team is moving to las vegas in 2020 and doesn't want to return to the coliseum next year because of a legal dispute with the city of oakland. a newly hired employee is killed at an animal center and coming up what we're learning the moments before a lion attacked her. talk about a wrong turn. the unusual predicament this crash caused in the east bay. and also on abc 7 news at 5:00, we'll take a look at some of the preparations underway for new york city's biggest party of the year. and i'm drew tuma. gorgeous sunset from our emeryville camera but we are in store

a lion killed a woman today at a north carolina nature conservatory. 22-year-old alexander black was part avenue team cleaning the enclosure. officials say one lion escaped a space that was supposed to be locked. several attempts to tranquilize the big cat failed and then sheriffs shot and killed it. in the east bay it has taken several hours to repair damaged calls when a truck drove off a freeway. abc 7 news was in martinez after a pickup truck landed alongside a creek beneath highway 4. the truck's driver escaped with minor injuries after plunging through the guard rail just before 10:00 this morning. a tow truck had to hoist the damaged pickup back on to westbound highway 4. caltrans has closed the left

lane to repair the damaged guard rail. security will be tight in times square to ring in 2019 tomorrow night. revelers could expect to see police using metal detectors to screen for weapons and officers will keep an eye on a crowd from ground level and sharpshooters have spent months in training and looking for threats from tall buildings. >> when it comes to the safety and protection, there will be much the public will see and much the public won't see. but the bottom line is people will be safe on monday and they should feel safe too. >> back trlihe embarcadero and other parts of the city. the billboard in san jose promoting the college football playoff national championship has a new look. take a look. workers swapped out the background to reflect that alabama and clemson will face off in the game at levi stadium on january 7th. fans had been living on the

it is quiet across the bay area. but that will be changing tomorrow as winds are about to pick up. earlier today, really comfortable out and about. a lot of spots made it into the 60s. right now we fallen back to about 54 in san francisco. we're about 56 in oakland. sme in san jose. fairfield still holding to about 61 degrees right now. winds are slowly starting to ramp up right along the coast. you could see san francisco right now gusting close to 30. san carlos about 21 that current gust. elsewhere away from the coast, we are quiet in terms of winds but over the next 12 hours those winds will be steadily increasing. so overnight tonight, what those winds actually do, they help to mix up the atmosphere so tonight not as cold as we were last next 12 hours.ear skies'll e 3 e but the winds will be the big story tonight. so a wind advisory will go into effect at midnight tonight. near the surface those north winds, i would say from 20 to 35

miles per hour but the areas shaded in yellow, the north bay mountains an the santa cruz mountains, it is not out of the question to see wind gusts in the range of 50, 60, close to 70 miles per hour in the hills. so there is a possibility for downs trees and power lines. tomorrow it is a nice looking day. a lost sunshine. but that wind is going to limit how warm we get, only in the 50s with the winds gusting at times. let's talk about the winds. hour by hour tomorrow morning at 7:00 in the morning you'll feel the winds out of the north. could you see areawide from 20 to about 30 miles per hour. throughout the day, they may weaken a bit. around 10 to 20 miles per hour but in the evening they will strengthen once again. so later on tomorrow night as many of us will be outside. you want to factor in the winds as to how warm it will feel. that windchill is going to feel very cold out there. so let's talk about the windchill. this is how it's real going to to feel when you factor in the gusty north winds. so by 8:00 tomorrow night, most

spots in the 30s and in the 40s. but by midnight you could see the winds continuing to bring those windchill numbers down. so as we say hello to 2019, wndchills well into the 30s across the region. so bundle up, hat, scarf and gloves and all of the layers because it is cold tomorrow night. seven-day forecast, bringing in cold mornings both wednesday and thursday. and hey, guys, our next chance of rain on saturday with a level one system, showers possible to start off that weekend. >> i don't know if i paid attention to your forecast or still thinking about the bacon. >> it is going to be cold. >> thank you. >> thank goodness there was football today to take my mind off bacon. >> the final day of the nfl sso still so much to be decided for the playoffs. and still records to be broken. a sub-par season for the 49ers but a spectacular

the 49ers and raiders wrapped up the 2018 season on the road today with a chance to alter the playoff picture for their point -- theirm played th leaders and that rams could secure a first-round bye and they got a good start because possession led to jared goff connecting with brandin cooks, three yards for the score. on the very next drive, mullens throws his first interception at a game.

there one to cory littleton and c.j. anderson on the raiders just three weeks ago, he ends up in the end zone. second quarter not any better for san francisco. mullens picked off by littleton again. this time he goes 19 yards and picks up the six points. niners had four turnovers in the first half. but a season highlight, george kittle. he set the nfl single season record for most receiving yards by a tight end on this 40-yard -- 43-yard touchdown reception. that is 1377 yards for kittle and the 49ers lose 48-32. t novers on the first four drives, including derek carr's first pick since week five. daniel sorenson took this 54 yards the other way. but hold up. look at jared cook. he quit on that route. why? we're not sure. but the two had a conversation on the sideline about it.

next possession, carr it time gets attacked by justin houston from behind and it is striped. he threw for 185 yards and two picks but that led to this t.d. run by williams. third quarter patrick mahomes became the third quarterback to throw 50 or more touchdowns in a single season. tom brady and peyton manning being the others. 89 yards. look at all of the room for demarcus robinson. tyreek hill had two touchdowns including this 15-yard run early in the fourth. the chiefs secure the top spot in the afc easily which comes with a bye and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. 35-3 the final. so at 3-13 the cardinal have the number one pick in the 2019 draft. the 49ers pick second due to the 4-12 record followed by the jets and raiders also at 4-12. bucs in the top five. and if the eagles beat washington they are in. nick foles threw two touchdowns to agholor.

eagles win and sneak into the final wildcard spot. so the steelers need to win and have the ravens lose to make the playoffs. pittsburg survives against cincinnati thanks to matt mccrane three field goals. this is the first game with the steelers. but the steelers need help from the browns. browns-ravens, first a flash back to week 17 of last season, the ravens versus the bengals and they lose and they are out and andy dalton with under a minute left scores the game winning touchdown. so back to today against the browns. with this steelers watching from the field, cleveland down two, ten, baker mayfield is picked off. so the ravens survive. they'll go to the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. pittsburg is nearly out. but if the
